Social enterprises across Northern Ireland play a crucial role in generating social value and boosting the local economy. In recognition of their impact and growing interest in social value procurement, Work West has proudly launched and completed its pilot ‘Social Value Ready’ programme.

The Social Value Ready initiative was developed to equip social entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to understand, articulate, and deliver social value in both public and private procurement settings. The Social Value Ready initiative was developed to equip social entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to understand, articulate, and deliver social value in both public and private procurement settings. Delivered as part of Belfast City Council’s Go Social programme, the pilot was facilitated by Stephen McGarry and featured expert input from:

  • Farrans Construction 
  • Strategic Investment Board (SIB) 
  • Belfast City Council Procurement Team
  • Stylografik
  • Peer Experts

  • Accessing procurement opportunities

All geared towards the development of a clear Social Value Offer

  •  100% of participants began the programme with limited or no awareness of social value.
  • 100% completed with improved understanding.
  • 80% reported significant or comprehensive improvement.
     

Participants now demonstrate:

  • Greater confidence in articulating their impact
  • Enhanced procurement knowledge
  • Readiness to partner with contractors and the public sector

 Following the pilot’s success, Work West is now exploring the expansion of the Social Value Ready programme to new cohorts. With almost 40 years of experience, Work West continues to lead in supporting and mentoring social enterprises across Northern Ireland.
